Hopscotch

As with most games, the more people playing the more fun it is, but this game requires at least 2 friends for play. You’ll need some sidewalk chalk to draw the board on concrete or a stick to draw it in dirt and a marker (a coin, rock or any small, toss-able object with at least one flat side).

A hopscotch course is a series of sequenced, numbered squares. The first player begins the game by tossing the marker into the first square (the number 1). The marker must land inside the square’s lines without touching them or bouncing outside those lines. The player hops through the course, skipping the square with the marker. Players hop in single squares with one foot and hop in the side by side squares using both feet. Once the player completes the first hop sequence their turn continues by tossing the marker into the next marked square (number 2, 3, 4 and so on) and repeating the pattern. The player’s turn will be lost when he or she:

  • Steps on a line of the marked course
  • Misses a square with his/her marker toss
  • Loses his or her balance

If a player loses their turn, their next turn starts at the square where they last left off. The first player to complete the course for each number square is the game winner!
